Camavinga – Kopa Trophy Runner Up
In the recent Ballon D’or ceremony, the Kopa Trophy which is awarded to the best young player of the year is been given to Barcelona’s Gavi. whereas Eduardo Camavinga came in second place. Fans and some pundits are saying that he should have won it because he was essential in Real Madrid’s success last season. Real Madrid won UEFA Champions League and La Liga last season. Although he won’t start in many games but he is a beast whenever he is brought in as a substitute.
The 19 years old French midfielder has shown that he has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the world. Eduardo Camavinga is quick, his footwork is good, and he quickly finds the tight spaces between the opposition’s defense. He scored a fantastic goal on his debut at Real Madrid where it all started. He is getting good playing time under Carlo Ancelotti. Camavinga is a complete modern-day midfielder and he is gaining more experience which he shows by getting better and better day by day.
Midfielders control the flow of the game.
They fall back when their team needs to defend and they rush forward when they are attacking. So basically they are the backup plan for both defenders and forwards. Real Madrid is one of the most successful clubs in the world due to the strong midfielders they have had in the past. Many legendary midfielders have played there, like Zinedine Zidane, Xabi Alonso, Michael Laudrup, etc. These were the players who set the bar for midfielders very high. And till last transfer window Real Madrid relied on one of the best mid-fielding trio. the 2018 Ballon D’or winner – Luka Modric, the german sniper – Toni Kroos, and the Brazilian tank – Casemiro who recently left to join Manchester United to rejoin with old teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane.
There are rumors that Toni Kroos is playing his last season and planning to retire from football. Luka Modric is also 36 years old. So Real Madrid has to think about replacements but they are blessed in terms of midfield. They have quite good young midfielders in the likes of Valverde, Ceballos, Tchouameni, and Camavinga.
Federico Valverde mostly plays as a right-winger, Tchouameni is also starting the games as Casemiro has left a spot for Real Madrid to fill. So Real Madrid is left with Ceballos who has experience but still needs to fight for a place at Real Madrid. And to be very honest he is not on the level of Kroos or Modric. But this is not the case with Camavinga, he is not starting games but whenever he comes on the field he just becomes a leader. He makes key runs between the opposition defense, participates in defense, and he helps the forwards.
Verdict
Surely, he is going to be a great midfielder for Real Madrid in the future. Whenever he is subbed on, Real Madrid starts playing like a fresh team. Madridistas would love to see Camavinga as the next key midfielder alongside Tchouameni and Ceballos and hopefully, he can win Kopa Trophy next year. And as football is changing so he is essential for Real Madrid’s midfield due to the impact he creates when he comes to the field.
