Mexico VS Poland – WC Match #7
Mexico and Poland played the second match of Group C. Both teams had a chance to sit at the second of the table alongside Saudi Arabia after they defeated Argentina by a shocking 2-1 result. However, this encounter ended in a draw. The match was played in Stadium 974. It was a really good atmosphere in this world’s first portable stadium which is built with 974 containers that can be removed and installed.Â
Clash of 2 similar sides
Mexico won the possession battle against Poland. They had 11 shots from which 4 were on target. In the first half, they were good and tested Wojciech Szczesny. Alexis Vega’s header and Gallardo’s strike were good. Szczesny also did well to palm out the header from Henry Martin after halftime.
Poland had 6 shots attempted and two were on target. It seemed like they were chasing the ball all the game. Poland had a really good opportunity to seal the deal but remained unable to do so. The golden chance was the penalty awarded to them but they missed it. Barcelona striker Lewandowski needed to score the penalty and take the lead for Poland but his kick was saved by the famous Guillermo “World Cup” Ochoa.
Man of the Match
The man of the match was given to Ochoa due to his world-class performance and an amazing save against Lewandowski. He was too good between the posts and did well defending the clean sheet. We know Ochoa becomes a different beast in the world cup and he does the same in his first match. It’s Guillermo Ochoa’s consecutive 5th world cup including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Andrés Guardado.
To sum up, this match was important for both teams. But let’s see what drama happens in Group C. As for now the points table of Group C looks ridiculous. The strongest team is at the bottom and the weakest team is at the top.Â
