Belgium VS Canada – WC Match #12

After the Croatia and Morocco draw, Canada played the match with the group F giants Belgium. This match reminded us of Belgium vs Portugal in EURO 2020 where Portugal was in the same condition as Canada. But both games were won by Belgium. Belgium now stands at top of the group F.

Belgium started the game on the back foot but just before half time they were able to take the lead. Canada won the penalty in the 8th minute. Courtois made a great safe to keep Belgium in the game. Then in the 44th minute, Alderweireld’s amazing perfect ball found the foot of Batshuayi and find the back of the net without wasting any time. After taking the lead the Belgium defense took the charge. The Belgium fans backed their team into defending their narrow lead till the final whistle. Belgium won all three points and is currently at the top of the group F table.

Canada’s Fearless Mindset

In half an hour Canada was on top of Belgium. They had 10 shots attempted in just half an hour. But after the Belgium goal, they chased them with everything they had but it was not enough to seal the deal or draw the match. Canada faced the same problem as the other teams faced in group F. In the final third they were weak and were not able to score. Canada attempted a total of 22 shots of which only 4 were on target. Despite Canada’s loss, Morocco and Croatia should prepare for their match since Canada’s style of play is also aggressive. 

Man of the Match

Bayern Munich’s left-back Alphonso Davies was all over the field, the way he defended and participated in the counter-attacks was magnificent. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to convert the penalty and save his team from defeat. Despite the loss, he deserves to win the man of the match award. 

Belgium has surely made themselves comfortable for qualification but let’s see what happens next in group F. As there are two more matches left for every team. May the best two teams qualify for the round of 16.
