Switzerland VS Cameroon – WC Match #13

Switzerland played against Cameroon in the first match of group G. It was the first game of the day after last night’s Belgium vs Canada classic. It was a crucial game for both teams as in group G the extraordinary Brazil team is the favorite to go to the next round. So the winner of this game Switzerland may be the second team to advance. 

Game Breakdown

Cameroon started the game well. The game was balanced and the scoreline was 0-0 at half-time. Both teams had an equal chance of winning it but it was looking like the game will stay goalless and both teams will take a point home. But after half-time, Switzerland surprised Onana and the defenders when Embolo strike the only goal in the game. After that goal, Cameroon tried well to draw the match but it was not enough and they lost it. 

Switzerland also started the game the same as Cameroon. In the first half, It looked like Cameroon has a better chance to win the game as Switzerland had no shots on target. But in the second half, they did well to score the only goal of the match. Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri the veterans combined really well before Shaqiri found Breel Embolo in the middle of the box unmarked and there was no way that he will miss that chance from close range. They will be happy to take all the 3 points home. 

Man of the Match

Switzerland’s goalkeeper Sommer won the man of the match award but Breel Embolo should have won it because of his only goal in the game. Goals are the most important as they decide the match. 

Next Switzerland will play against Brazil. Cameroon has to beat Serbia and Brazil if they want to qualify for the round of 16. Maybe it looks impossible but it is the world cup and anything can happen. We already saw two upsets in this world cup.
