Senegal Eliminated Qatar From World Cup

The hosts Qatar played their second game of the tournament against Senegal, which was the third match of Group A. Both teams lost their first match and needed to win this match if they wanted to keep their round of 16 hopes alive. Senegal won the game 3-1 and got all three points.

Match Breakdown

Qatar played better than in their first game. They were able to find the score sheet. Senegal came on top so Qatar may not make it to the round of 16. They attempted 10 shots out of which three were on target. It was all square until the 40th minute, but Senegal scored twice after that. Qatar did grow in-game and scored a goal. Senegal needed to win the game as they lost their first. They controlled the game from the 1st minute. Before the halftime break, Boulaye Dia opened the scoring. Khoukhi made a mistake as Diatta’s cross came in he should have cleared the ball but the bounced off his hips and dropped within the shooting range of Dia. After half time Diedhiou scored from the corner and made it 2-0. Qatar looked to surprise Senegal and got one back. Senegal then scored another in the 84th minute. This time Dieng scored and got the two-goal cushion back for Senegal.

Man of the match

Edouard Mendy made two great saves to keep Senegal in the game when the score was 2-0. He bounced back into good form and was deservingly man of the match today. Also, Dia scored an amazing goal, a top striker thinking from him to get to the attack and don’t miss the opportunity.

Qatar became the first-ever host to be eliminated in first 2 games. However, other Asian teams are doing really well. Wales was beaten by Iran earlier in the day, another Asian team looking in good form. Now they cannot qualify for the round of 16 but their next game will decide who will.
