Iran Wins It Late! Wales Left Heartbroken.
After a great first round of the FIFA World Cup 2022 group stages, we moved on next round. In the third match of Group B, Iran and Wales clashed. After Iran’s humiliating defeat against England, Wales had an upper hand on Iran. However, Iran fight all the way to the end and won all three points.
Wales started the game really well. It looked like they are in control of the game in the first 15 minutes but maybe they thought of Iran as a weak opponent and got too comfortable. They manage to attempt 10 shots of which only three were on target. They lack quality in the final third. Wales got a warning in the 17th minute when Iran scored a goal. Wales got saved as the goal was disallowed. But that was the turning point of the match. In the 86th minute, Hennessey got a red card. And that gives Iran the motivation to use the remaining fuels in their legs and take 3 points home.
Never Giving Up
After the humiliation received by Iran in the first match, everyone thought they are out of this tournament. They came all the way back to maybe they have sent Wales home as they will face England in the next match. The disallowed goal in the 17th minute gives them the much-needed confidence that they can score and win the game. Even though they lost the first match but they did score against England and that can also be a confidence boost. They attempted a total of 21 shots of which 6 were on target. They kept going on even after not getting the goal.
Last two minutes of extra time Cheshmi stood up and gave Iran the lead. He struck the ball beautifully into the bottom corner from outside the box. And Iran knew they have done it. All the hopes of Wales to get a point home vanished. Iran didn’t just stop there they scored again in the 90+11th minute. This time Rezaeian found the back of the net after chipping the ball over Ward. Taremi did well to counter-attack and find the goal once again. Azmoun and Golizadeh also looked amazing when they both hit the post. So Iran was a better team today.
Man of the Match
Mehdi Taremi and Azmoun played really well today. Taremi has shown some serious attacking talent. In the first game, he scored two goals and in this game, he may have not to find the net himself but he assisted the last goal. So, he was the man of the match today for us.
Group B is getting Interested now as the last position Iran climb up to the second position and Wales are now at the bottom. And it doesn’t look like they will be able to climb back.
