Germany Survives! Spain Missed Qualification Chance
Group E titans clashed in the 4th match of the group. Two great football nations collided and there was nothing to split them. Spain and Germany tied the game and now both will get a point home. Germany needed the win after losing their first match against Japan but the draw can also be helpful. Both sides were amazing and it was a wonderful atmosphere inside the Al Bayt Stadium.Â
Spain in the first half
This Spanish squad is something else. They started the game with high pressing. For 30 minutes of high pressing Spain looked for other options as Germany did well with the counterattacks. Spain did let the ball in their net but was saved by the VAR review. After half-time, Luis Enrique brought on the substitute Alvaro Morata the Spanish hero today. In the 62nd minute of the match, Alba’s cross was enough for Morata to score the goal and give Spain the lead. But in the end, Germany scored as Spain looked to set back and defend the goal till the final whistle. It was a good game of football. Spain will be happy with the draw. They sit at the top of the group E table. However, there are still doubts about qualification.Â
Germany strikes back
Germany started the game chasing Spain. They were comfortable with Spain’s possession as they knew tier counterattacks are effective. In the second half after conceding the goal, the Germans woke up from their tombs and played a totally different game. But a proper striker was lacking. Thomas Muller was not effective so Hansi Flick brought Niclas Fullkrug. He was amazing as soon as he came to the pitch Germany looked more aggressive. And finally, in the 83rd minute, the Werder Bremen striker scored and kept Germany in the race for a round of 16. Jamal Musiala cleared the defenders but was uncomfortable with the ball, Fullkrug steal the ball from him and fired it into the top corner. It was an amazing goal. After that Germany managed to do some more attacks, they almost came to scoring the winner in the final minute when Sane made a brilliant run behind the Spanish defense but the Spanish keeper react quickly and Spain was able to defend the ball.Â
Man of the match
Atletico Madrid and Spain’s striker Alvaro Morata won the man of the match award. However, we think Jamal Musiala was fantastic today. He made great runs forward and also contributed to the equalizer. So he deserved to be the man of the match.Â
With this draw and Japan losing to Costa Rica earlier, all 4 teams in group E are in the race for the round of 16. It will be decided on the last day who will go home and who will stay for more glory.Â
