Netherlands Topped Group After Beating Qatar

The Netherlands played the hosts Qatar in the final group-stage game. They beat Qatar 2-0 and booked their place in the round of 16. Qatar conceded 7 goals in the group stages of this tournament. The home fans did a good job supporting their team at the Al Bayt Stadium. Despite losing the game these guys were full of energy.  Qatar attempted only 5 shots out of which 3 were on target but they lack quality in the final third. They have much to learn about the big stages and hopefully with some more time they will. 

Match Breakdown

The Netherlands won by scoring 2 goals against Qatar. They are on top of their group. 13 shots were attempted by them out of which only 4 were on target. But enough to beat Qatar. Qatar didn’t trouble them so they won comfortably. Gakpo found the net in the 26th minute. Klaassen created the opportunity for him. Then in the 2nd half, Frenkie De Jong scored off the rebound. This time Klaassen did well saint to create this opportunity as he crossed the ball for Depay. Barsham did well to save it but De Jong found the ball and fired it into the net to double the lead. Then Gakpo again scored but the goal was ruled out due to the handball They comfortably won the game.

Man of the match

Klaassen won the man of the match award after creating two amazing opportunities for the Dutch. He did well today. 

It’s a wrap. The teams that will go to the next stage are Netherlands and Senegal. Senegal beat Ecuador to progress. Qatar and Ecuador have to say goodbye to the world cup.
