Portugal Progress To Next Round After Beating Uruguay
Portugal made it to the round of 16 after beating Uruguay in the 4th match of group H. It was a good match between the two heavyweights of group H. Portugal came out on top. They deserved the victory as it was them who played better than Uruguay. Uruguay is currently at the bottom of the group table. After tieing the first match they needed a win but their efforts were not enough.
Match Breakdown
Uruguay started the game on backfoot as they let Portugal keep possession. It was a good strategy as Uruguay has players like Fede Valverde who can be lethal with counter-attacks. The best moment for them was when Gomez hit the post, and Suarez and De Arrascaete came close. They attempted 11 shots out of which only 3 were on target.
Portugal pretty much controlled the game. They scored twice and the defense kept firm. After making some big blunders in the first game of Ghana vs Portugal, Diogo Costa rose from the ruins today. He was very impressive in front of the net and made some great saves.
Bruno Masterclass
Manchester United’s Midfielder Bruno Fernandes was the man of the match. In the 54th minute, Bruno Fernandes fired a cross in the box for Ronaldo. Ronaldo jumped to score the header but the ball went straight into the box. But due to his actions, Rochet got confused and was not able to save the ball. Then in the stoppage time, he won the penalty and scored to double his tally and lead. Fernandez also hit the post at end of the game which could have been his hat trick goal.
As Portugal has qualified for the round of 16. Uruguay still has a chance if Portugal beat South Korea and they beat Ghana. The other teams also have a chance if things go their way so let’s see what happens on the final match day.
