Croatia 0-0 Belgium – Red Devils Exits World Cup

belgium-croatia

One of the most important games of this tournament was held between Belgium and Croatia. Croatia needed only a draw to go to the next stage. Belgium had to win against Croatia in order to qualify but they were unable to break the deadlock. It was Croatia who came on top as they did a great job with the defense. Group F’s giant and the world’s second-best side in rankings Belgium will now go home.

What went wrong for Belgium

Belgium started the game balanced as always they love to keep possession but not force the attacks. In the first half, they were saved as the penalty decision was given in their favor. Dries Mertens probably missed a great chance. In the second half, they struggled against Croatia. They created a lot of attacking chances in the last 10-15 minutes of the game. Stoppage time was also in the favor of Belgium but The Red Devils were not able to finish any chance. They attempted 16 shots out of which only 3 were on target. Romelu Lukaku got so many good goal-scoring chances but unfortunately couldn’t capitalize on them.

Man of the match

Luka Modric was given the man of the match award but then we think that the masked defender Joško Gvardiol deserves more than anyone. He was lethal at the end of the game, clearing the ball, and stopping chances from Lukaku. Croatia has always played the match in their traditional style. They attempted 11 shots of which 4 were on target but not enough to beat Courtois. They did get a penalty in the first half but the decision was overturned as Lovren was offside.

The group F matches are done now, Morocco beat Canada by 2-1 in another game. Croatia – the runners-up in 2018 and Morocco are qualified. What is unusual is that Morocco finished at the top of the group while Croatia is 2nd. The other teams Belgium and Canada are eliminated.
