Serbia 2-3 Switzerland – Swiss Earned Qualification

Group G’s last day was amazing, Switzerland defeated Serbia by 3-2. Switzerland booked their place in the round of 16 after an extraordinary game against Serbia. Serbia played well but they lost the game. Switzerland and Brazil are two teams that are going to the next stage from group G. 

Match Breakdown

Switzerland did very well in taking the lead in the 20th minute. Sow passed Xherdan Shaqiri the ball and he smashed it into the goal. But then Serbia scored twice. In response, Embolo scored to equalize, he slots Widmer’s ball. In the 2nd half, Freuler finished the ball to seal the deal. Then they defend their goal well till the last whistle. They attempted 14 shots of which 7 were on target. Granit Xhaka won the man of the match award because of his solid midfield performance.

Serbia also played well in the first period. They scored twice after conceding 1. Mitrovic put his header across Kobel in the 26th minute. After just 8 minutes Vlahovic fires the ball into the net to take lead for Serbia. But it was not enough as Switzerland scored twice to take the win. Serbia was not impressive in the 2nd half. Their defeat means Cameroon will also not go into the round of 16. They manage to attempt 12 shots out of which 4 were on target.

The final day of the group stage was full of action. Korea defeated Portugal, Cameroon beat Brazil, Uruguay heartbreak and Switzerland pulled back Serbia. Let’s see what happens in the round of 16 as Switzerland will play against Portugal and Brazil will face South Korea.
