Argentina 2-1 Australia – Messi Ran The Show

Argentina knocked out Australia to book their place in the quarter-finals. The Australians did well in the 2nd half but this Argentinian side was too much for them. Now they have to go home and Argentina will play the quarterfinal against the Netherlands who defeated the USA earlier. 

Vulnerable Australia

Australia conceded a goal early in the first half and then in the second half. In the 77th minute, they got a gift from Argentina as Enzo Fernandez scored an own goal. But they fight till the last whistle so score a goal and go into the extra time. Argentina didn’t let them score as they were too sharp in the midfield. A goodbye for Australia they did well in this world cup, qualifying from a tough group into the round of 16. They should learn and do good in the next world cup. 

Argentina putting the pressure

Argentina was keeping possession and did well to put Australia under pressure. Captain Messi scored the first goal. Australians were not able to defend the freekick so the ball ended up with Otamendi. He did well to assist Messi. Messi fires the ball into the bottom corner to take the lead. Then Julian Alvarez scored in the 57th minute to double the lead. Enzo Fernandez did score an own goal but Argentina did well to defend their goal and not conceded any. Overall Argentina attempted 14 shots of which 5 were on target.

Messi’s Masterclass

Leo Messi won the man of the match award. He played one of the best individual performances in the world cup. The little magician took his team to the quarter-finals. Maybe he can win the cup missing in his glorious achievements.
