LIV Golf Players Who Are Eligible For Masters 2023
The president of the Augusta National Golf Club announced the eligibility of all players, including those of LIV Golf, for the 2023 edition of the Masters (April 6 to 9) on Tuesday. Augusta National Club President Fred Ridley said in a statement that all LIV golf players will be eligible for the 2023 edition of the Masters despite speculation surrounding Greg Norman’s league.
LIV Golf players present
This, therefore, confirms the presence of current “Livers”, former winners of the tournament such as Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson, Charl Schwartzel, and Phil Mickelson. As well as those who have won a major golf tournament in the last five years like Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.
And finally, those who are still in the top 50 of the OWGR (Official World Golf Ranking), although LIV Golf tournaments do not have OWGR points for their events. This top 50 currently concerns Abraham Ancer, Louis Oosthuizen, Talor Gooch, Kevin Na, Jason Kokrak, Joaquin Niemann, and Harold Varner III.
Possibility of Modification in future
However, Augusta National Golf Club Chairman Fred Ridley said changes are possible for future years regarding the tournament’s qualifying criteria. A decision he will announce in April, during the Masters period. “We review all aspects of the tournament every year and any changes to the invitation criteria for future tournaments will be announced in April.”
We will therefore witness, during the next Masters, the duel of players loyal to the PGA Tour such as Rory McIlroy or Scottie Scheffler against dissidents of the league with Saudi funds such as Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith. A tournament bringing together the legends of current golf: “We have reached a decisive point in the history of our sport. At Augusta National, we believe that golf, which has overcome many challenges over the years, will endure again,” concluded the Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club.
